In January 2007, Jeffrey Brett Goodin of California turned the very first defendant convicted by a jury under the provisions from the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. He was found guilty of sending thousands of email messages to AOL consumers, whilst posing as the business's billing Division, which prompted consumers to submit individual and charge card info.
